NSW COast 2001

NSW COAST 2001

Saturday 22 December

Travelled to Forster/Tuncurry 388km
Stopped in Pearl Beach Jan/ Ken morning tea. Went for walk around Pearl Beach. Nice area but very expensive. Only one way in which keeps it safe and secure.
Stopped in The Entrance lunch. Very busy town with a small market near bridge. Leah bought a copper bracelet. Very hot.

Sunday 23 December

Forster/Tuncurry - lovely camp site on inlet. Camp had a sailing theme but was fully equipped (including the inevitable mossies).
Boat trip dolphin spotting – didn’t see anything so got an offer of a free trip the following day. Bought provisions in town and had dinner back at camp.
Coastal walk from 1 mile beach

Monday 24 December

Travelled to Byron Bay 524km
Stopped at Port McQuarrie rainforest walk beach & monitor lizard. Latter was beautiful – very large and not at all frightened of we humans. PMcQ is a large town with good shopping facilities. Built on an inlet.
Stopped at Grafton (briefly). Farming community away from coast. Got some petrol and did a little shopping.
Arrived late at BB - pitched tent at camp site a little out of town. Not too popular as we were next to sewage ponds. Town was very full as were all the camp sites closer in

Tuesday 25 December Xmas day

Byron Bay

Walk around town – lots of young people. Xmas seemed very low key – no bunting or decorations etc. However all pubs open and doing great trade.
Healthy lunch? Then a beach walk close to our camp site. Generally quiet day.

Wednesday 26 December

Byron Bay
Travelled to Arrawarra 350km
Stopped at Nimbin (lunch) checked Hemp embassy, Offered a joint in the street. Nimbin is a quaint little town inland from BB. Became famous as the alternative op out Woodstock area in the 70’s and has stayed in a bit of a time warp since. Lots of people around in the old flower power shirts and skirts and shops reflected that old ethos.

Stopped for fruit & veg at a house outside Casino. Casino looked a nice town but we were on a mission. Traveled thru’ Casino & Grafton on way south (Summerland? Highway). Great inland road, much quicker travel than on Pacific highway.
